HELP® Energy Absorbing Bumpers Featured at Mobility Rising: Detroit 2017 Community Transit Expo
ROMEO, Mich. — Award-winning Romeo RIM (www.romeorim.com), the world’s innovative leader in custom reaction injection molding and composite solutions, recently participated in the Mobility Rising: Detroit 2017 Community Transit Expo as it continues to reaffirm its commitment to the community transit market.
The company’s HELP® Energy Absorbing Bumper was on display at the Romeo RIM booth via videos showcasing its ability to withstand impacts without damaging the bus chassis, body or the bumper itself.
“This was a great opportunity to support the paratransit industry and showcase the impact testing, especially the corner impact our HELP bumpers can absorb with literally no damage,” said Business Unit Manager Bill Buchanan, who led the Romeo RIM delegation at Mobility Rising.
Buchanan explained that in addition to videos showing crash testing, Romeo RIM’s exhibit booth had a small-scale press with a section of a HELP bumper. Using a lever, individuals could apply pressure to the bumper to see how it absorbed energy.
In addition to the HELP bumper demonstrations, Romeo RIM shared best practices from its 35 years of developing unique engineering capabilities and in-house testing to produce industry leading energy absorbing bumpers.
The company also gave a sneak preview of a new as-yet-to-be-unveiled, game-changing bumper product specifically designed for the paratransit industry.
“This industry is unique in that there are a lot of tight turns and maneuvering in places like airports, so there are a lot of low-speed impacts that need to be addressed,” Buchanan explained, adding, “We’ve worked hard to develop products that not only protect the chassis of the vehicle, but are durable enough to survive multiple hits without breaking or looking damaged.”
Romeo RIM’s sought-after LFI technology uses a mix of polyurethane and chopped fiberglass in molds to create products with the unique combination of superior strength and light weight. Romeo RIM was the first company to bring LFI to North America, providing customers with advantages including lower tooling and production costs, dimensional stability, and optimized weight and strength.
The company’s innovative manufacturing technology includes seven highly automated molding machines for parts up to 10 ‘ x 4.5’ x 1’, robot-controlled painting and molding equipment, and a 400-ton, 12′ x 12′ double shuttle press, which is the largest in North America.
